Two administrators from the Orange County School District are spearheading the effort to integrate artificial intelligence into public education. Kunal Dalal and Wes Kriesel, who specialize in AI within the Orange County Department of Education, are responsible for streamlining the incorporation of AI into school curricula. "We focus on highlighting the positive uses, " noted Dalal. "Interestingly, one unexpected outcome has been the deepening of our human connections due to AI. " The pair joined the school district in late 2023, as reported by OCDE Newsroom. Dalal collaborates closely with 1, 200 OCDE staff members, while Kriesel implements AI in 29 schools. "When it comes to these tools, we need to think creatively about how we can utilize them for good, " Kriesel affirmed. "There's no limit when human creativity is applied to finding solutions. The duo also believes that AI can enhance creative storytelling. "I can request it to generate a four-sequence image that tells a story, " Dalal explained. While the technology may be astonishing to some, there are those who advocate for banning AI, concerned that it may deter critical thinking and imagination. Dalal, however, emphasizes the importance of perspective. "This isn't a replacement; it's an enhancement, " he emphasized. "My son may not have had the ability to imagine so deeply, but now he can go from there to levels I can't even fathom. "
