Adobe and Runway Partner to Integrate AI-Generated Video in Creative Cloud with Gen-4.5 Launch

Brief news summary

Adobe has partnered with Runway in a multi-year collaboration to integrate advanced generative AI video features into Adobe Firefly and Creative Cloud applications. This initiative allows users to generate AI-created video clips from text prompts with precise control over motion and pacing, removing the need for traditional filming. Powered by Runway’s Gen-4.5 AI model, these tools improve motion quality, prompt accuracy, and visual consistency. Creators can begin projects in Firefly and seamlessly refine them in Premiere Pro, After Effects, and other Adobe apps, enhancing the creative workflow. As Runway’s preferred API partner, Adobe provides early access to these AI capabilities, especially for Firefly Pro users until December 22. The partnership also focuses on responsibly expanding video functionalities while addressing AI’s effects on film, TV, and advertising production. Moreover, Firefly users benefit from secure AI model mixing without their content being used to train AI systems, marking a major step forward in combining AI-driven creativity with professional video editing tools.

Adobe has revealed a multi-year collaboration with Runway that integrates generative video capabilities directly into Adobe Firefly and, progressively, deeper within Creative Cloud. The goal is to embed AI-generated video into the familiar tools that professionals already rely on to edit, finalize, and deliver their projects. Runway provides AI-based video generation tools enabling users to produce clips from text prompts, manage motion and pacing, and explore various visual concepts without the need for actual footage. Operating in a similar space as solutions like OpenAI’s Sora, Runway is frequently employed as a practical production tool. SEE ALSO: Disney and OpenAI collaborate to bring classic characters into Sora Under this partnership, Adobe becomes Runway’s preferred API creativity partner, granting Adobe customers early access to Runway’s latest models within Firefly, beginning with the new Gen-4. 5 model. This upgrade is currently available for a limited time both in Firefly and on Runway’s own platform. “As AI reshapes video production, professionals are turning to Adobe’s creative ecosystem—from Firefly to Premiere to After Effects—to envision, create, and scale their stories across all screens, ” stated Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s chief technology officer and senior vice president of digital media. “Combining Runway’s generative video innovations with Adobe’s established pro workflows will empower creators and brands to broaden their creative capabilities and address the expanding demands of modern content and media production. ” Runway Gen-4. 5 The Gen-4. 5 update enhances motion quality, offers stronger prompt control, and ensures more consistent visuals across shots.

Inside Firefly, creators can generate video clips from text prompts, experiment quickly with different approaches, and compile those clips within Firefly’s video editor. These creations can then be moved into Premiere Pro, After Effects, and other Creative Cloud applications for detailed refinement. “We’re developing AI tools that are transforming creativity, storytelling, and entertainment, with Gen-4. 5 as our latest advancement, ” said Cristóbal Valenzuela, Runway’s co-founder and CEO. “This partnership brings our cutting-edge generative video technology to a wider community of storytellers, integrated into Adobe’s creative tools, which are already industry standards for numerous creators worldwide. ” Adobe and Runway plan to collaborate directly with filmmakers, studios, agencies, streaming services, and brands to introduce new video features into Adobe’s applications. Integrating AI video generation within the same software used for final delivery signals it will become a standard part of everyday production workflows. This prompts important questions regarding its use, acceptable practices, and implications for creative roles across film, television, and advertising industries. Adobe assures that Firefly users can combine different AI models—both its own and Runway’s—depending on the task, without that generated content being utilized to train AI systems. Runway’s Gen-4. 5 is currently accessible in Adobe Firefly and on Runway’s platform, with Adobe Firefly Pro subscribers enjoying unlimited generations through December 22.
