They often require humans to emulate machine-like behaviors rather than genuinely human responses. For instance, studies showing AI’s superior empathetic responses involve ChatGPT replying to Reddit posts about personal struggles. While AI responses may be rated as more empathetic, they lack the personal connection and understanding that come from relationships with friends, family, or therapists who know the individual’s context. Similarly, claims that AI produces more novel ideas than human researchers overlook the collaborative nature of innovation in science. In experiments, humans had to generate ideas individually, which diminishes the impact of teamwork that is vital for creativity and problem-solving.
