According to a recent report from Bloomberg News, Amazon has reportedly recruited executives from Adept AI for its artificial general intelligence (AGI) project. David Luan, the CEO and co-founder of Adept, is set to join Amazon's AGI autonomy team, along with four other co-founders and additional members from Adept. AGI refers to a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that can exhibit human-like thinking capabilities. The internal memo mentioned in the report states that Amazon intends to leverage Adept's technology in developing autonomous AI tools, known as agents, to aid in the creation of automated software workflows and assist with the development of products. Bloomberg also highlighted that Adept raised $350 million in March 2023, with a valuation exceeding $1 billion. In a blog post announcing the partnership with Amazon, Adept expressed its focus on building both foundational AI models and tools for businesses, which would have required significant attention on fundraising for foundational models, hindering the realization of their agent vision. Remaining members of the Adept team will continue to operate independently with a more product-oriented mission, as stated in the internal memo to Amazon employees. Rohit Prasad, Head of the Amazon AI autonomy team, expressed his enthusiasm for the expertise of David Luan and his team in training advanced multimodal foundational models and developing real-world digital agents that align with Amazon's vision to provide practical AI solutions to consumers and enterprise customers, according to the memo. Earlier this month, we reported on the increasing interest of tech investors in AI agents, leading to substantial funding for startups involved in their development.

CNBC highlighted the potential of AI agents to disrupt industries, automate complex tasks, and enable users to delegate responsibilities, resulting in new opportunities. This news regarding Amazon's adoption of AI technology comes shortly after the company reached a market valuation of over $2 trillion, driven in part by investor enthusiasm for AI. Amazon's involvement in the AI sector extends to its subsidiary Amazon Web Service (AWS), the leading provider of cloud computing services worldwide. Additionally, Amazon has made investments in AI startup Anthropic and robotics company Figure.
