Anthropic Releases Desktop App for Claude AI Chatbot

Claude, the AI chatbot developed by Anthropic, now has a desktop application available for download on both Mac and Windows for free from Anthropic's website. Recently, Anthropic launched the public beta of its “computer use” feature, enabling the Claude 3. 5 Sonnet model to interact with a computer by observing the screen, moving the cursor, clicking on items, and typing. However, this functionality is not accessible through the app. Furthermore, Anthropic is introducing dictation support in Claude's Android and iOS applications, allowing users to pose questions via voice commands. The desktop version of Claude closely resembles the web version, enabling users to easily ask questions, access previous conversations, and view starred chats.

It simply offers the added convenience of initiating a chat with Claude directly from your desktop without having to navigate to the website. Other AI chatbots, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Perplexity's AI search engine, already feature desktop applications, while Microsoft Copilot is integrated into Windows 11. Recently, ChatGPT's desktop app also introduced support for an advanced voice mode.

Brief news summary

Anthropic has introduced a free desktop app for its AI chatbot, Claude, compatible with both Mac and Windows. This release follows the launch of a public beta for Claude's "computer use" feature, allowing the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model to control a computer by observing screens and responding to user actions like moving the mouse and typing, although this capability isn't part of the desktop app. To further improve user experience, Anthropic is adding dictation support to its Android and iOS apps, allowing voice command interactions. The desktop app replicates the web version, enabling users to ask questions, access past conversations, and view starred chats, all while offering easier desktop access. In comparison, other AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Perplexity have already established desktop applications, with Microsoft Copilot integrated into Windows 11. ChatGPT has recently upgraded its desktop app with an advanced voice mode, showcasing the rapid developments in the AI chatbot arena.
