Apple's plans for WWDC seem to extend beyond simply incorporating AI technology into their products. Along with Siri gaining enhanced AI-powered app control, the company intends to revamp various aspects of their iOS and macOS systems, such as the Settings apps, Control Center, Messages, Mail, and more. According to Mark Gurman's Power On Newsletter for Bloomberg, the Settings app will receive a new, more organized and improved search user interface. A similar redesign is also expected for the macOS System Settings app. The Control Center in iOS will be updated with a new music widget and various enhancements for operating smart home appliances. While the specific changes were not detailed, customization options for the Home widget could be a welcomed improvement. Messages will introduce a new feature allowing users to animate individual words in text messages, a report from MacRumors confirms. Additionally, Tapback icons, similar to reaction emoji-style icons, will be added when long-pressing a message.
UI changes and improvements are also anticipated for Photos and the Mail app. Apple is said to unveil visionOS 2. 0, which will include native versions of their first-party apps. Currently, visionOS only supports iPad versions of Apple apps like Home, Calendar, Podcasts, and Pages. Despite these updates, Gurman emphasizes that Apple's primary focus at WWDC 2024 will be on AI technology. One notable rumored feature is Siri's ability to autonomously perform tasks within apps, based on the device's analysis of the user's activities. Examples include Siri providing meeting summaries, automatically cropping photos, or moving notes between folders in the Notes app.
