Artifact, the news app created by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, is introducing a new text-to-speech feature powered by AI. Through a partnership with Speechify, users will be able to listen to news articles read out loud by various voices, including those of Snoop Dogg and Gwyneth Paltrow. With over 30 English voices to choose from, users can adjust the reading speed and select their preferred voice through the app's text-to-speech player. The audio can continue playing in the background, even when users navigate away from the app. Currently available on iOS, the feature will soon be released for Android as well.
Although the AI voices may sound noticeably artificial, they effectively serve their purpose of facilitating article listening. Artifact, which initially launched in January, has consistently introduced new updates in recent months. The app incorporates other AI-powered functionalities, such as article summarization and headline rewriting.
