The US company Astera Labs has announced the opening of a new research and development center in Israel, with sites in Tel Aviv and Haifa, aimed at advancing high-performance connectivity technologies for artificial intelligence infrastructure. The firm intends to hire hundreds of employees by the end of 2027, with local leadership under Guy Azrad, a former Google executive. This new Israeli hub will concentrate on the complete chip design process, spanning architecture to production, including software and systems for cutting-edge AI applications. Azrad stated that the decision demonstrates the company’s confidence in Israel’s talent and technological ecosystem, despite the region’s complex environment. Established in 2018 by former Texas Instruments engineers, Astera Labs creates solutions to optimize data flow within data centers and computing platforms.
With the emergence of generative AI models, the company has centered its strategy on addressing connectivity, memory, and communication bottlenecks among accelerators working in tandem. Listed on Nasdaq with a valuation close to $30 billion, Astera Labs also plans to partner with universities and the local startup ecosystem. The objective is to develop technologies that will underpin the future generation of artificial intelligence infrastructure worldwide.
