Fake Avengers: Doomsday AI-Generated Leak Video Goes Viral with 7 Million Views

Brief news summary

A viral video claiming to reveal leaks from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie quickly gained 7 million views by showcasing surprising scenes, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and cameos from Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and Deadpool. However, the footage was soon exposed as an AI-generated fake, demonstrating the advanced realism AI technology can achieve. Subtle inconsistencies—like a Thor resembling Heath Ledger and a Scarlet Witch lookalike similar to Taylor Swift—revealed the video’s inauthenticity, though most viewers were initially convinced. The video appeared amid skepticism about Marvel’s use of practical Iron Man suits versus CGI, highlighting how convincing AI fabrications have become. Likely created playfully in response to recent set photos, the clip showcased AI’s ability to animate still images, raising concerns about the growing difficulty in distinguishing real leaks from forgeries. This incident underscores the mounting challenges fans and media face as sophisticated AI-generated content increasingly blurs the line between reality and deception in entertainment industry leaks.

Over the past 24 hours, a video quickly circulated across social media, amassing 7 million views at the time of writing, as everyone rushed to check out what were claimed to be set leaks from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, currently filming in various locations. The video contained several surprises, including Robert Downey Jr. in a Doctor Doom costume, and unannounced appearances from Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and Deadpool—big revelations! But it’s fake. Obviously, it’s fake. It’s AI-generated. Yet it’s AI that demonstrates how rapidly this technology is evolving into something nearly unstoppable. It’s true that if you pause the video, you can clearly tell it’s AI. Some sections stand out more than others, like a Thor resembling Heath Ledger or a Scarlet Witch looking like Taylor Swift. However, if you just skim through it quickly, you can see how it could “pass” at first glance, effectively mimicking the style and feel of genuine set leak videos in a way I’ve never seen before. The community eventually identified it as AI, but not before it had garnered at least 5 million views. If this were shared on Facebook (which likely already happened), I’d bet 95% of users there would be convinced it was real. Interestingly, the first reason this was debunked wasn’t due to strange hands or odd facial features, but because no one believed Marvel would use a practical Iron Man suit now, given that the armor has long been CGI with Robert Downey Jr. wearing a mo-cap suit. This video quote-tweets a set photo that appears to have inspired the entire concept, bringing the still image to life in one scene. And honestly, I’m not even sure if that image is AI-generated or not (it claims it isn’t, which may or may not be reliable!).

I suspect it is. I’ll need to zoom in and examine it more closely. But that’s precisely the point, isn’t it?In just a few years, this tech has advanced so much that you must pause, zoom, and scrutinize to determine whether something is AI. A video like this would have been impossible just a year ago. What will it look like a year from now?Presumably, no more Taylor Swift or Heath Ledger faces. I don’t think this was meant as a serious leak. Including Deadpool, Spider-Man, and Scarlet Witch feels like a joke. It was likely created quickly in response to another purported leaked set photo that was circulating. Is this kind of thing silly?Yes, once you analyze it and spot the obvious inconsistencies. But expect these kinds of AI-generated leaks to become increasingly common and more convincing in the near future. The coming years will be somewhat unsettling.
