Brief news summary
NoneHuman beings, in comparison to most other organisms on the planet, are incredibly complex creatures. This complexity, thankfully, ensures that writers have job security. At SXS Sydney, Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, expressed his lack of concern about being replaced by artificial intelligence. He had tried using a popular chatbot called ChatGPT to write a script for his Emmy-winning Netflix sci-fi anthology series. Initially, Brooker was worried as he read the first few sentences, fearing that he could be easily replaced. However, as the script progressed, he realized there was nothing to worry about. Computers cannot replicate the intricacies of human nature. According to Brooker, the chatbot "emulates something" by regurgitating information it has gathered from various sources, such as Wikipedia. It pretends to be something it is incapable of being. Brooker stated, "I can't quite see it replacing messy people. " He had previously mentioned his brief experience with AI when writing for Black Mirror. Although the script initially seemed plausible, a closer look revealed its shortcomings.
Brooker acknowledges that artificial intelligence is here to stay and does have its advantages. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has negotiated limits and best practices for using AI as part of their agreement to end the writers' strike. However, perhaps Brooker underestimates the capabilities of our future AI overlords.
