Empowering Women in Web3: Clarity, Education, and Community Driving Female Participation in Crypto

In an industry marked by complexity, jargon, and mistrust, women involved in Web3 emphasize that attracting more women to the crypto space begins with clarity, education, and fostering community. At the Blockchain Baddies side event during Token2049 in Dubai, women shared their personal journeys into the Web3 world and explained why increasing female participation is crucial for crypto’s future. In interviews with Cointelegraph, community members stressed that the way forward involves simplifying technical concepts and creating supportive environments where women can learn and develop. From clarifying concepts to skill building Women in Web3 highlighted that demystifying crypto—from simplifying technical language to offering safe learning spaces—and making tools more user-friendly can unlock greater opportunities for women entering the Web3 industry. Caroline York, marketing director of Web3 company Serotonin, explained that making the space more inviting to women starts with increasing clarity. “To attract more women, information must be much clearer and more digestible, ” she said. York told Cointelegraph that women also tend to feel safer in trusting, intimate settings, typically relying on friends and peers as information sources. “Women learn from other women, ” she pointed out, referencing community-driven educational programs like SheFi. York noted these initiatives help expand female involvement. Saima Tariq Khan, an engineer, educator, and crypto community member, echoed these views. Khan said demystifying crypto’s intimidating terminology is essential. “What is DeFi?What do I mean by cryptocurrency?

What is blockchain?First, we need to build that foundational understanding, ” she said. Khan added that despite many women graduating with computer science degrees, they remain underrepresented in the workforce. She observed that Web3’s remote-friendly nature offers a chance to tap into this underutilized talent pool. Related: Crypto spending will grow, but fiat isn’t going anywhere: Mercuryo CEO Financial literacy as a foundation Author and SheFi scholar Paloma Soria Brown also stressed that education is key, emphasizing financial literacy as the starting point. “People often don’t know what Web3 means, ” Brown told Cointelegraph. “Even if you’re aware of crypto but not an investor, you might only see scams and rug pulls. ” Brown said improving financial education and building trust are vital for attracting more women and others to crypto. She believes that if more people grasped Web3 concepts like ownership, freedom, and community, they would be drawn to its possibilities. Meanwhile, Abigail Xavier, marketing manager at Web3 financial platform Fasset, highlighted the role companies must play in making crypto more accessible to women. Xavier shared that their team actively collaborates with women-focused communities to refine their products. “We partner with many women-inclusive groups to understand their experiences and incorporate feedback into our UI and UX, ” Xavier said. “We want to make our platform and tools more intuitive for our female users. ”
