To address this, Obyte introduces Obyte City and other upcoming community engagement tools designed to foster closer and more numerous connections among members. The goal is to create a dense network of horizontal ties, making the community stronger, more cooperative, effective in collective action, resilient, and less reliant on the central team, which has previously performed poorly in community building. **What is Obyte City?** City is a virtual space segmented into one trillion land plots arranged in a square, each plot identified by coordinates like (123456, 789012) within a 0 to 1, 000, 000 range. Users purchase plots, which are randomly assigned coordinates. The tokens used to buy a plot (minus a fee) remain locked in that plot and can be withdrawn only by relinquishing it. When a newly acquired plot lies close to an existing unbuilt plot, both plot owners earn rewards: their unbuilt plots are upgraded to houses (built plots), and each owner receives two additional unbuilt plots at random locations, doubling their holdings and potential profits. These new plots hold the same token value as the original ones, allowing users either to cash out by leaving plots or to wait for future reward cycles triggered by acquiring neighbors. Built plots no longer contain tokens. The rewarding process requires the two neighboring owners to coordinate closely by connecting on Discord or Telegram and submitting their claim requests within 10 minutes of each other. This interaction fosters stronger personal ties anchored in cooperative problem-solving. Additional smaller follow-up rewards reinforce the connection and require similar coordinated claiming every 60 days after becoming neighbors. House owners can assign unique shortcodes to their houses, available first-come, first-served and transferable between owners.
