In an announcement made to crypto. news on February 5, World Mobile revealed that its collaboration with DITO Telecom’s holding company is set to improve internet access for over 25 million Filipinos. This initiative coincides with renewed efforts to promote cryptocurrency and blockchain adoption throughout the nation. This strategic alliance will involve using World Mobile’s decentralized physical infrastructure network technology in conjunction with DITO CME’s network of operators. Both companies aim to improve mobile and broadband connectivity across the Philippines, particularly in underserved rural areas. Micky Watkins, CEO of World Mobile Group, stated: “This partnership with DITO CME marks a significant step towards our goal of democratizing access to connectivity worldwide. By harnessing blockchain technology and a decentralized sharing economy model, we can empower communities and deliver connectivity solutions that ensure no one is excluded. ” The blockchain-based solution not only enhances overall network reach but also fosters innovation, driving the advancement of digital finance across the country. In addition to World Mobile’s DePIN technology, the collaboration will incorporate Starlink-powered AirNodes to improve coverage. Moreover, the partnership will introduce DTaka, a blockchain-based e-wallet that will be integrated into the DITO CME ecosystem. DTaka operates on a dual-token model: a stablecoin for facilitating remittances and mobile transfers, and a utility token for gamification and loyalty rewards. The rollout of these new features, including the DTaka wallet, is scheduled to commence in 2025 within the Philippines. World Mobile and DITO CME also have plans to expand these functionalities across the World Mobile Chain and the DTaka app in the upcoming months.
