Brief news summary

Dyslexia, a common processing disorder that affects reading and learning, impacts one in five people, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It can be particularly challenging for students, affecting their ability to learn and make friends. Megan Furman, who had severe dyslexia as a child, struggled in school until her family found a solution in Dysolve AI, an online platform designed for students with learning disabilities. Created by Dr. Coral Hoh and a former IBM engineer, the program uses games to activate specific brain processes and identify areas of weakness. While Dysolve AI doesn't address all deficiencies in school-aged children, it has been successful for Megan, who now excels in school and plans to study biology in college. Dysolve AI is seeking partnerships with school districts to expand its programs and target other learning disabilities.

Dyslexia is a prevalent processing disorder that can impact a person's reading and learning abilities. According to the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, one in five individuals suffer from dyslexia. This condition can particularly present challenges for children at school, affecting their learning and social interactions. Megan Furman, who grew up with severe dyslexia, shares that her schooling experience was not easy. "Anything related to language, spelling, making friends in class, communicating with parents, friends, and family; Megan struggled with all of that. Even her speech was difficult to understand, " explained her mother, Debbie Furman. The initial years were spent trying various approaches to help Megan succeed. "I tried various methods, including Special Education and sending Megan to summer camps for dyslexic children, where she received private tutoring. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to be helping, " added Furman. Then, Dysolve AI, an online platform specifically designed for students with learning disabilities, came into the picture. "The games are created to activate specific processes, and they are concise. They aim to activate as few brain processes as possible, allowing for the identification of problem areas, " said Dr. Coral Hoh, the CEO. Dr.

Hoh, along with a former IBM engineer, spent the past decade developing this program. "When a child struggles through the program, the games during the corrective phase are designed to push the child beyond their current limits. We inform them that this is a positive sign, as it means the program is successfully identifying their weaknesses, " shared Dr. Hoh. Although experts at Dysolve AI acknowledge that it does not address all deficiencies in school-aged children, it has proven to be beneficial for many. For instance, recent state data shows that special education students in Albany schools did not meet state targets in English Language Arts for grades 4, 8, and high school. "We already have the solution, and we shouldn't postpone its implementation until next fall. We should start using it today, " Dr. Hoh emphasized. In Megan's case, Dysolve AI made a positive impact, and she is now thriving. She graduated from high school with honors and is pursuing a biology degree in college. "In the beginning, I had doubts about Megan's future. I wasn't sure if she would attend college, succeed in this world, or even be able to read, " shared her hopeful mother. Dysolve AI aims to partner with school districts across the state and expand its programs to address other learning disabilities.
