Mira Murati, the Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI who announced her resignation last month, is seeking venture capital funding for a new AI startup, as reported by Reuters. This new venture is expected to concentrate on developing AI products utilizing proprietary models and may secure over $100 million in this funding round. In her departure announcement on X, Murati highlighted that OpenAI has “fundamentally changed how AI systems learn and reason through complex problems” with its latest innovations. She mentioned, “I’m stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my own exploration, ” but did not provide specifics regarding her future plans. Prior to her tenure at OpenAI, where she served as VP of applied AI and partnerships from 2018, Murati was employed at Tesla and Leap Motion.
In 2022, she was elevated to the position of CTO and even took on the role of interim CEO during the brief removal of co-founder and CEO Sam Altman.
