Jarvis is real. Google's new AI prototype inadvertently made its way to the public via the Chrome Web Store. Unlike typical AI helpers that provide weather updates or appointment reminders, The Information reported that this Jarvis prototype was described on its store page as “a helpful companion that surfs the web for you, ” managing common tasks like grocery shopping, booking flights, and researching topics through web browsers. Essentially, Google’s new AI can control a computer to perform simple tasks without human intervention.
However, the prototype on Google’s extension store was not fully functional, as a reporter's attempt to use Jarvis was blocked by access permissions, preventing it from performing any actions. Google removed Jarvis' store page by mid-afternoon, ahead of its scheduled release in December. Jarvis faces competition from companies like Anthropic, whose Claude AI assistant began its public beta last month. Anthropic's AI can do more than just basic browser tasks; Claude can operate a computer to type, activate buttons, and move the cursor.
