Google Cloud is introducing the Automotive AI Agent, designed to help automakers develop advanced generative AI experiences for vehicles. Leveraging Gemini with Vertex AI, this agent is tailored to help create personalized and intuitive in-car assistants that surpass traditional voice control. It offers multimodal reasoning and multilingual support for natural conversations, answering questions like, "Is there an Italian restaurant nearby?" along with follow-ups like, "Does the restaurant have good reviews?" or "What is the most popular dish there?" Mercedes-Benz is one of the first to adopt the Automotive AI Agent in its MBUX Virtual Assistant, debuting in the new Mercedes-Benz CLA later this year.

This upgraded assistant, using data from Google Maps Platform, enables drivers and passengers to quickly obtain thorough and personalized information about places of interest, traffic, and more through voice commands. Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent will also allow the MBUX Virtual Assistant to manage complex, multi-turn dialogue and remember conversations, letting users pause and resume interactions seamlessly.
