Google has introduced its standalone Gemini artificial intelligence app for iPhone users, moving beyond its previous limited integration within the main Google app. This new app provides enhanced functionality, featuring support for Gemini Live and iOS-specific features like Dynamic Island integration. iPhone users can now engage with Google's AI using text or voice queries through the app, which also supports Gemini Extensions. Gemini Live, a significant new feature not available in the earlier Google app, appears in both the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen during conversations, allowing users to manage AI interactions without navigating back to the main app. The app is free to download, while premium features are offered via Gemini Advanced subscriptions as in-app purchases.
As part of the Google One AI premium plan costing $18. 99 per month, Gemini Advanced includes access to Gemini in Mail, Docs, Google’s next-generation model 1. 5 Pro, priority access to new features, and a one million token context window. Users must sign in with a Google account to use the service. This launch follows an initial soft rollout in the Philippines earlier this week, with availability now extended to regions including Australia, India, the US, and the UK. Previously, iOS users could only access Gemini through a tab in the main Google app, which was more limited than the Android version. The standalone app, now available on the App Store, aims to bring feature parity between iOS and Android platforms.
