Google has unveiled an AI tool named Whisk that enables image generation using other images as prompts rather than lengthy text prompts. With Whisk, you can use images to define the subject, scene, and style of your desired AI-generated image, allowing multiple images for each category. Additionally, text prompts can be used, though they are optional. If you lack suitable images, a dice icon can fill in suggestions, though these are also AI-generated. Adding text at the end for extra detail is optional. Whisk generates images and a corresponding text prompt for each one.
You can favorite or download if satisfied, or refine the image by adding text or editing the text prompt. Google emphasizes that Whisk is meant for "rapid visual exploration" rather than pixel-perfect edits, and acknowledges it may not always meet expectations, hence the editing option. In my brief experience with Whisk, it has been fun to experiment with, though images require a few seconds to generate, which can be bothersome. Despite some peculiar results, the creations have been enjoyable to refine. Whisk utilizes Google's latest Imagen 3 image generation model, announced today. Google also launched Veo 2, the updated video generation model, which better understands cinematography and has reduced issues like extra fingers compared to other models, likely referencing OpenAI’s Sora. Veo 2 will initially be available through Google’s VideoFX, accessible via the Google Labs waitlist, with plans to roll it out to YouTube Shorts and other products next year.
