Researchers from China have developed a guide that allows anyone with a low-cost artificial intelligence (AI) chip to enhance the performance of hypersonic weapons. By installing an Nvidia Jetson TX2i GPU computer module into an air-breathing hypersonic aircraft, computational fluid dynamics models can be processed with unprecedented efficiency, completing calculations four times faster than the blink of an eye. The module's high-speed response makes it suitable for real-time optimization and control in scramjet engines. The TX2i module is an affordable alternative to more expensive AI chips, and is widely available online.

The guide also addresses potential challenges and provides detailed instructions. Although Chinese chip manufacturers can supply comparable chips to the military, this project aimed to prove the feasibility of using inexpensive AI chips for hypersonic weapons. Other countries, including Germany, France, Japan, North Korea, and Iran, are also engaged in hypersonic weapon research.
