Humane has issued an email to customers who purchased the $700 AI Pin, advising them to discontinue the use of the Charge Case Accessory due to potential fire safety risks. The company, in an email obtained by The Verge, explained that the charging case has been found to have a quality issue with the battery cell after investigating a reported charging problem. The battery cell was supplied by a third-party vendor with whom Humane is no longer working. Humane emphasizes that it is taking this precautionary measure out of an abundance of caution. They assure customers that the problem is limited to the Charge Case and does not impact the AI Pin, Battery Boosters, or Charge Pad, allowing users to continue charging their devices. In light of the situation, customers are urged to immediately stop using and charging the Charge Case Accessory.

Although Humane is not issuing a recall or providing refunds, they will be offering a complimentary two-month subscription to affected customers. Introduced in November, the AI Pin is a standalone device specifically designed for AI. The device is magnetically attached to clothing and features a "laser ink display" that can project information onto the user's hand, along with a built-in camera. Unfortunately, the AI Pin received negative reviews and faced criticism for its underwhelming performance.
