Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL Review: Features, AI Capabilities, and User Experience

Brief news summary

Google's latest smartphones, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, have received positive feedback for their new design and impressive AI capabilities, including the Gemini Advanced AI feature. One review praised the large screen, sleek design, and powerful Tensor G4 chip, as well as the exceptional camera system and long battery life. However, drawbacks such as the high price and lack of expandable storage were acknowledged. The Tensor G4 chip was also considered inferior to some competitors. The review appeared somewhat exaggerated, particularly regarding the camera's capabilities. Additionally, inconsistent results and factual errors were found in multiple attempts to obtain reviews through Gemini Advanced. These inconsistencies and inaccuracies indicate that while the service has benefits, the provided reviews can vary significantly, and the information may not always be reliable.

Google's latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, offer an array of exciting features and improvements. The redesigned appearance, coupled with the advanced AI capabilities, provides users with a delightful experience. While many of these AI skills are focused on enhancing imagery, such as the impressive generative AI Pixel Studio, Google's Gemini Advanced stands out for its ability to provide answers to a wide range of queries, albeit occasionally with inaccuracies. Considering this, I decided to challenge the Pixel 9 Pro XL by requesting it to review itself. Prior to that, I wrote my own review, highlighting positive aspects like the updated design, long software support, and impressive daytime photography. However, I also pointed out less favorable aspects such as the monthly subscription for Gemini Advanced and the disappointing low-light image quality. Drawing upon my expertise in mobile technology journalism, encompassing 13 years of experience, along with thorough real-world testing, my review is based on reliable and hands-on observations. On the other hand, the Pixel's self-review relies on information sourced from the internet. I simply asked it to write a 200-word review of the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and it delivered the following: "The Pixel 9 Pro XL is Google's most striking and sizeable smartphone yet. Boasting a sleek design, an immersive 6. 8-inch display, and a powerful Tensor G4 chip, it undeniably qualifies as a flagship device. The camera system is exceptional, capturing stunning photos and videos in any lighting condition. Furthermore, its battery life is impressive, easily providing a full day's usage on a single charge. "However, it has its limitations.

The phone carries a substantial price tag, and the absence of expandable storage may be a downside for certain users. Additionally, though the Tensor G4 is fast, it falls slightly short of matching the raw power of some competitors. "In conclusion, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is a fantastic smartphone that offers a multitude of benefits. If you seek a top-of-the-line Android device with outstanding camera prowess and extended battery longevity, it is definitely worth considering. " All in all, the Pixel's self-review is not bad. It concurs with my assessment of the "sleek new design, " but it exaggerates the camera capabilities, making it sound more like promotional material rather than an objective review based on practical experience. Interestingly, when I repeatedly asked for reviews of the Pixel 9 Pro XL, varying my phrasing each time, the results varied significantly. Some reviews highlighted issues with macro photography, while others critiqued inconsistent battery life. One review concluded by stating, "If you desire the absolute best in terms of performance or design, there may be better-suited alternatives. " Another labeled the design as stagnant and criticized the high price tag, even deeming the AI features as "gimmicky. " The inconsistency of the generated opinions is expected from AI search algorithms, as the information sources and the algorithms used can differ. For instance, if you were to request 100 poems on a horse in the circus, you would receive 100 distinct poems. Beyond these inconsistencies, I also observed factual errors in some reviews, such as references to the incorrect Tensor G3 processor instead of the actual Tensor G4. Similar inaccuracies in key specifications were prevalent throughout my testing of Gemini Advanced. For instance, the service suggested songs that do not exist and directed me to a closed bar for a drink. In summary, while the Pixel's self-review showcases some accurate observations and echoes some of my own findings, it is important to recognize the limitations and potential errors that can arise from relying solely on AI-generated content.
