(Reuters) - On Monday, IBM unveiled the latest version of its artificial intelligence models designed for businesses, aiming to leverage the growing trend of enterprises embracing generative AI technology. The "Granite 3. 0" models will be released as open-source, following the precedent set by other models in IBM's Granite AI family. This strategy sets IBM apart from competitors like Microsoft, which charges users for access to its models. Additionally, IBM provides a paid service named Watsonx, which facilitates the operation of these models within data centers after they have been tailored to specific needs. Starting Monday, some versions of the new Granite models are available for commercial deployment on the Watsonx platform.
A selection of these models will also be accessible through Nvidia's suite of software tools, which assist businesses in integrating AI models. Dario Gil, IBM's director of research, stated that the new Granite models were trained utilizing Nvidia’s H100 graphics processing units (GPUs).
