Meta is aiming to establish itself as a player in the AI industry, but its efforts have resulted in some users expressing frustration. The company recently announced the deployment of its Meta AI assistant across various platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, in a dozen countries. However, users have complained about the assistant overwhelming their feeds on these social media platforms. The AI tool is designed to be utilized in feeds, chats, and search functions across Meta's apps. It also has a feature that accelerates image processing. This means that users can input a suggestion, and the Meta AI assistant will generate an image based on that suggestion as they provide more specific details. However, it's worth noting that the image feature is only available on WhatsApp and Meta's AI web experience. Despite Meta's claim that its AI tool can assist in planning outings or offering restaurant recommendations, users who frequently use the platform's social media apps have found it to be burdensome.
Some users, like Michael Taylor, have expressed dissatisfaction with the search function on Instagram due to the incorporation of Meta AI. Taylor mentioned in one post that he was attempting to search for a band's name and didn't need any suggestions. Similarly, Makay commented in a post that she wanted to search on Instagram, not interact with AI. When asked if there was a way to disable Meta's AI tool, Makay responded that Meta AI didn't provide an option. According to a Meta spokesperson, there isn't currently an official method to disable the AI tool. However, users can still utilize the search bar for their queries, even if they can't disable the AI tool through their current experience. This news comes alongside other recent Meta developments, such as the introduction of its ChatGPT competitor AI assistant on Facebook and Instagram, the unveiling of a new AI chip called Blackwell, and the upcoming release of an AI update for Meta's smart glasses.
