The AI Art Magazine, a new 176-page biannual publication entirely focused on art created by artificial intelligence, has been launched. Publisher Mike Brauner stated that it will "serve as a vital chronicle of this transformative moment in art history. " According to the magazine's website, it "celebrates the fusion of human creativity and intelligent machines, freezing the moment of art in a tangible printed form while AI is evolving rapidly. " The project was initiated by Hamburg-based creative studio polardots. studio and Christoph Grünberger, author of The Age of Data: Embracing Algorithms in Art & Design. The magazine "showcases remarkable works and accompanying essays that set the benchmark for today’s AI-generated art, from surprising visual experiments to conceptually refined pieces that push the boundaries of this rapidly evolving field, " according to a statement. "The magazine reveals what happens when humans and machines get creative together. We’re opening the doors wide open and believe it’s going to be a big party—come in and let’s dance. " Priced at 22 euros, the magazine is independently funded to maintain "editorial independence and creative freedom, " Brauner added.
"Our first issue is advertisement-free, but we've established meaningful partnerships with supporters who received customized editions for their clients. " The first issue's cover features an artwork by Japanese AI artist Emi Kusano, who discusses her practice in an interview. It also includes a "curated gallery" of 50 works chosen from an international open call by a jury, including Mexican graphic designer Adriana Mora and an AI jury member named Xiaomi. Several selected artworks are complemented by essays from jury members. For instance, American graphic designer David Carson's essay, "If someone gives a command to a machine, is that person then an artist?" focuses on U. S. artist Kevin Esherick’s work "Somewhere in Michigan, " demonstrating the depth of critical engagement the magazine aims to foster, Brauner said.
