The acquisition secures the Monarch Compute Campus, a site spanning up to 2, 250 acres in Mason County, West Virginia, featuring the United States’ first state-certified AI microgrid, scalable to over 8 gigawatts of power capacity. This deal also creates Nscale Energy & Power, a new global division headquartered in Houston, Texas. The campus benefits from long-term, low-cost, onsite powered microgrid access to support multi-gigawatt expansions, addressing a critical bottleneck in developing cutting-edge, high-demand AI compute infrastructure. The West Virginia facility is the nation’s first state-certified utility grid purpose-built for AI workloads. An initial 2-gigawatt power capacity is expected to be operational by mid-2028, with plans to expand to around 8 gigawatts by 2031. “Nscale is a global company, and the US represents the world’s largest AI infrastructure market.
