Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Predicts $50 Billion AI Market in China Amid Trade Challenges

Brief news summary

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted China’s AI market is projected to reach around $50 billion within two to three years, calling missing this opportunity a major loss. He stressed that selling to China would boost U.S. revenue, taxes, and jobs. Huang affirmed Nvidia’s agility in adapting to government policies to support national interests. Despite recent U.S. export controls restricting Nvidia’s H20 chip shipments to China—resulting in a $5.5 billion quarterly charge and raising concerns over growth amid trade tensions—Huang praised China’s AI advancements and recognized Huawei as a strong competitor. Nvidia, a GPU leader fueling the AI surge with a nearly $3 trillion market cap, has seen its shares fall about 15% this year after prior gains. Analysts expect 65% revenue growth year-over-year to $43.1 billion in the next report. Huang emphasized the global demand for AI and the importance of promoting American AI technology worldwide.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated on Tuesday that China's artificial intelligence market is expected to reach approximately $50 billion within the next two to three years, emphasizing that missing out on this opportunity would be a "tremendous loss. " Huang noted that selling into China would generate revenue, taxes, and "create lots of jobs here in the United States. " "We just have to stay agile, " Huang told CNBC's Jon Fortt during an interview alongside ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott. The tech leaders were attending ServiceNow's Knowledge 2025 conference in Las Vegas. "Whatever the government's policies are, whatever is in the best interest of our country, we'll support, " Huang added. Nvidia, the top provider of graphics processing units (GPUs) that have fueled the AI boom and boosted the company’s market cap to nearly $3 trillion, recently faced restrictions. Last month, the Trump administration limited shipments of Nvidia's H20 chips to China without a license. This technology, related to the Hopper chips used globally, was developed to comply with earlier U. S. export controls. Nvidia announced it would take a $5. 5 billion quarterly charge due to the restriction, marking a strong indication that U. S. -China trade tensions could slow the company's historic growth.

In late April, Huang said at a tech conference in Washington, D. C. , that China is "not behind" in AI and described Huawei as "one of the most formidable technology companies in the world. " Nvidia’s shares have declined about 15% so far this year after nearly tripling in 2023. The company is scheduled to report earnings on May 28. Analysts forecast revenue growth of 65% year-over-year to $43. 1 billion, according to LSEG. Although Nvidia is still growing much faster than its megacap peers, its growth rate is slowing compared to over a 260% revenue increase a year ago. "The world is right now hungry, anxious to engage AI, " Huang said Tuesday. "Let us get the American AI out in front of everybody right now. "
