Nvidia introduces its AI music editor, Fugatto, which can generate unprecedented sounds, such as a trumpet that meows. This tool creates music, sound, and speech using text and audio inputs it hasn't specifically been trained on. As demonstrated in the video below, Fugatto can compose music from unusual prompts like "Create a saxophone howling, barking, then electronic music with dogs barking. " Nvidia showcases examples where Fugatto produces unique sound effects, such as "Deep, rumbling bass pulses paired with intermittent, high-pitched digital chirps, like the sound of a massive sentient machine waking up. " It even transforms voice sounds by changing accents or tones to make them angry or calm. For music editing, Fugatto can isolate vocals, add instruments, and swap a piano with an opera singer to alter melodies. A paper accompanying the announcement lists extensive datasets used to train Fugatto, including BBC sound effects. While several AI audio tools exist, such as those from Stability AI, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, ElevenLabs, and Adobe, none claim to create entirely new sounds.
Some AI startups even face copyright lawsuits over similar tools, and a report noted Nvidia and others used YouTube subtitles to train AI models. To develop Fugatto, Nvidia compiled a dataset of millions of audio samples. They also formulated instructions to broaden the model's task capabilities, enhancing accuracy and enabling new tasks without extra data. Nvidia has yet to announce the tool's public release date.
