This new version adds Ray Reconstruction, a feature that uses their neural network to enhance the quality of ray traced images. Unlike the previous version, DLSS 3. 5 will be available for all RTX GPUs, not just RTX 40-series cards. According to NVIDIA, Ray Reconstruction replaces hand-tuned denoisers with an AI network trained on their supercomputer, resulting in higher-quality pixels between sampled rays. This approach is similar to their original pitch for DLSS, which aims to improve the appearance of low-resolution textures through AI technology.
Additionally, this advancement could potentially enhance ray tracing performance. The media has been shown images demonstrating the capabilities of Ray Reconstruction, revealing sharper reflections and textures in supported titles. However, developers will still need to manually implement support for this new feature. The first game to feature DLSS 3. 5 will be Cyberpunk 2077, including its expansion Phantom Liberty, slated for release in September. Portal RTX and Alan Wake 2 are also expected to include DLSS 3. 5 support. NVIDIA will showcase Ray Reconstruction at Gamescom this week, and hopefully, we'll be able to see it in action ourselves soon.
