OCTC Launches AI Course: CIT 102 Introduction to AI in the Workplace

Owensboro Community & Technical College has partnered with three other KCTCS colleges to launch a new course centered around artificial intelligence (AI). This course, titled CIT 102: Introduction to AI in the Workplace, aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of AI and explore various key concepts, including generative AI, machine learning, and natural language processing. In addition to covering the fundamentals, the course will also delve into the impact of AI on industries, practical skills required for the digital workforce, effective utilization of AI, and the ethical considerations associated with its implementation. Dr. Scott Williams, President of OCTC, expressed enthusiasm about being among the first colleges to offer a course that explores the application and implications of AI in the workplace. CIT 102 is an online course offered through the Computer & Information Technologies program during the second bi-term of the fall semester. Running from October 21 to December 15, 2024, the course is worth three credit hours and does not have any pre- or co-requisites.

Currently, it is an elective and not a mandatory requirement for any academic program. The instructor for this course will be Calli Young, a distinguished alumna of OCTC's CIT program. Her outstanding academic performance earned her recognition as the program's Outstanding Student. She went on to complete her Associate in Applied Science degree before pursuing a bachelor's degree at Murray State University and subsequently earning a master's degree from Morehead State University.
