AI Startup Advancements: Funding, Collaborations, and Innovative Models

Each week, Quartz compiles updates on product launches, funding news, and developments from AI-focused startups and companies. --- This week's highlights in the dynamic AI sector include: Physical Intelligence, a startup focused on developing foundational models and learning algorithms for robots, secured $400 million in funding, with OpenAI and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos among the investors, according to CNBC. The round valued the company at $2. 4 billion. Other investors include Thrive Capital, Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, and Lux Capital. In March, Physical Intelligence raised $70 million in its seed round, valuing it at $400 million. Over eight months, it has created a general-purpose robot foundation model named pi-zero. This model represents a step toward enabling robots to perform tasks on user demand, similar to how large language models and chatbots operate. AI startup Anthropic and Palantir Technologies announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services to provide Anthropic’s Claude AI models to U. S. intelligence and defense agencies.

The Claude 3 and 3. 5 series will be available on AWS, facilitating tasks like processing complex data, enhancing insights, identifying patterns, improving document review, and aiding timely decision-making while maintaining decision-making authority, as stated by Palantir. Additionally, AI startup Thesys announced a $4 million seed round, led by Together Fund. Thesys has developed a "visual collaboration tool" for companies to "ideate, visualize, and ship" user interfaces for AI agents. Co-founder Parikshit Deshmukh stated that static interfaces can’t keep up with today’s AI capabilities. Thesys aims to help businesses adapt by enhancing AI-driven interactions for superior user experiences. Lastly, Pibox, an audio and video collaboration platform, secured $1. 2 million to launch its creative tools. Investors include Presto Ventures, Globalive Capital, and Startup Wise Guys. Google for Startups also contributed, aiding Pibox in adding AI-powered features. Co-founder and CEO Ivan Talaichuk expressed a commitment to creating a unified space for content collaboration, as he personally found using multiple apps disruptive to creativity.
