In December 2023, an illustration featuring AI (Artificial Intelligence) words, a miniature robot, and the EU flag was captured. According to a report commissioned by Amazon Web Services, more than a third of European businesses embraced AI that year, particularly generative AI. The European Commission presented its 2030 Digital Decade vision in 2021, aiming for 80% of the population to possess basic digital skills, widespread 5G connectivity, and 75% of EU companies utilizing cloud services. However, in 2022, only 25% of EU businesses had implemented AI, posing a risk of falling behind the Digital Decade goals by a decade without addressing the skills gap.

AWS Managing Director, Tanuja Randery, stated that the accessibility of generative AI in the previous year fueled an appetite for experimentation among consumers and businesses, consequently accelerating the adoption of AI and bringing Europe closer to achieving its Digital Decade goals. A survey conducted by Strand Partners, involving over 16, 000 citizens and 14, 000 businesses, revealed that 38% of the companies were experimenting with AI. The report estimated an additional positive economic impact of 600 billion euros from the implementation of AI, on top of the previously estimated 2. 8 trillion euros.
