A report published on Monday revealed that patients' knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) significantly impacts their comfort level when considering healthcare facilities that utilize this technology. As the healthcare industry evolves due to factors such as aging populations, increasing chronic illnesses, and lifestyle changes, technology, particularly AI, is playing an increasingly vital role. GlobalData, a data and analytics company, conducted the report, which showed that 60% of patients familiar with AI felt either very or quite comfortable with using a healthcare facility that employs this technology, compared to only 7% of patients who were not familiar with AI. Urte Jakimaviciute, Senior Director of Market Research at GlobalData, emphasized the importance of patient education regarding AI, stating that successful use cases and a reliable regulatory framework are crucial in increasing trust and adoption of the technology.
The survey, conducted between July and August, involved 574 patients from various countries including India, the US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, Japan, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico. The survey data also revealed that younger patients (18-55 years old) were more acquainted with AI compared to older patients (56+ years), with over 50% of them considering themselves moderately or very familiar with the technology. Jakimaviciute underscored the need for an inclusive adoption of AI, stating that collaboration among different generations is necessary to build a fair and ethical AI system that addresses issues across all age groups.
