EssilorLuxottica more than tripled its sales of Meta’s artificial intelligence glasses last year, the Ray-Ban maker announced Wednesday in its fourth-quarter results. The French-Italian eyewear company reported selling over 7 million AI glasses throughout the year. This is a significant increase from the combined total of 2 million units sold in 2023 and 2024, as stated in its quarterly report from last February. The figure disclosed on Wednesday includes smart glasses sold under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, with Oakley's version having been launched in June. The company’s success with smart glasses highlights the growing consumer adoption of wearable AI technology. “Our success in wearables is helping to propel the AI-glasses revolution, with our iconic brands being a powerful driver of demand, ” the company said in a statement. EssilorLuxottica has collaborated on these wearable devices with Meta since 2019, CNBC reported at the time. The two firms launched the first edition of the glasses in September 2021; however, the device only gained widespread recognition following the second-generation release in 2023. In September, EssilorLuxottica and Meta introduced a new Ray-Ban model featuring control via hand gestures and neural technology.
Priced at $799, the glasses include a small display embedded in one lens. In January, Meta announced a delay in the international rollout of the Ray-Ban Display glasses—originally scheduled for early 2026—citing “unprecedented” demand in the U. S. According to a Bloomberg report last month, Meta and EssilorLuxottica are discussing plans to double production to at least 20 million units by the end of this year to keep up with rising demand. Meta demonstrated its commitment to the partnership by extending a long-term agreement with EssilorLuxottica in 2024 to “collaborate into the next decade. ”
