On its 15th anniversary, Singapore's national health tech agency, Integrated Health Information Systems, has undergone a rebranding and is now known as Synapxe. Since 2008, the agency has been involved in the design, development, and implementation of IT solutions that support the operations of 46 public healthcare institutions and over 70, 000 healthcare workers. With the management of approximately 600 health IT systems and over 80, 000 end-point devices, Synapxe acts as a "connector" within the health ecosystem, facilitating the flow of information. The agency has now renewed its focus on accelerating the development and adoption of next-generation health technologies, which are expected to greatly enhance health outcomes. According to a statement by Synapxe, the intentional spelling of the name with an 'x' represents the multiplier effect and symbolizes the agency's commitment to driving advancements in health innovation. As part of its efforts, Synapxe is introducing new AI-powered health solutions. One of these solutions, known as ACE-AI (Assisted Chronic Disease Explanation using AI), will be piloted with 20 general practitioners by the end of the year. The tool utilizes AI to identify risk factors and automate risk calculations for early detection of chronic diseases. Another solution called AIM. SG is a vendor-neutral platform developed in collaboration with SingHealth and NTT Data.

It allows for the rapid development, testing, and deployment of AI imaging models and will be piloted at Changi General Hospital and Singapore General Hospital. Additionally, Synapxe is working on a project with the National Healthcare Group Polyclinics aimed at improving medication adherence among patients. An experimental stage initiative called AV-MED (Augmented Video Analytics for Medication Adherence) utilizes object detection AI modeling and video analytics to monitor patients' medication intake. Earlier this year, Synapxe launched HealthX, a collaborative platform designed to facilitate the development and deployment of innovative technology solutions. Synapxe also plays a pivotal role in powering Singapore's Ministry of Health's national preventive healthcare program, Healthier SG. This includes the development of the Healthier SG Open Architecture and National Health Information Grid, which promote interoperability and data exchange within the healthcare ecosystem. Additionally, the agency has announced partnerships with global organizations such as Google Cloud and Accenture to deploy the API management platform, Apigee, allowing third-party developers access to Synapxe's data and services for creating new applications. Furthermore, the collaboration with Microsoft has been expanded to develop smart applications using generative AI. Synapxe CEO Ngiam Siew Ying emphasized the agency's commitment to leveraging technologies like generative AI and cloud computing to enhance key programs, including Healthier SG, with the aim of improving the health of the population and ensuring a future-ready healthcare system for Singapore.
