SoundCloud has always prioritized artists and will continue to do so. Our mission is to empower artists by providing them with control, transparency, and meaningful opportunities for growth. We believe that, when developed responsibly and guided by principles of consent, attribution, and fair compensation, AI can significantly enhance creative potential. SoundCloud has never used artist content to train AI models, nor do we develop AI tools or permit third parties to scrape or utilize SoundCloud content from our platform for AI training. To enforce this, we have implemented technical safeguards, including a “no AI” tag on our site to explicitly prevent unauthorized usage. The February 2024 update to our Terms of Service aimed to clarify how content might interact with AI technologies within SoundCloud’s own platform. Such use cases include personalized recommendations, content organization, fraud detection, and enhanced content identification assisted by AI technologies. Any future AI applications on SoundCloud will be designed to support and enhance human artists, improving tools, capabilities, outreach, and opportunities available on our platform.
Examples include refining music recommendations, generating playlists, organizing content, and detecting fraudulent behavior. These initiatives comply with existing licensing agreements and ethical standards. Tools like Musiio are solely used for artist discovery and content organization—not for training generative AI models. We acknowledge the concerns expressed and remain committed to maintaining open dialogue. Artists will continue to retain control over their work, and we will keep our community informed throughout the process as we explore innovation and apply AI technologies responsibly, especially as legal and commercial landscapes evolve.
