The Metropolitan Museum of Art has launched a new Web3 game called Art Links, inviting players to explore connections among its art collections. This innovative mobile-based, browser game, created with TRLab, marks The Met's first venture into Web3 technology and allows participants to earn unique NFT badges and digital or physical rewards. The game, which debuted today on The Met's website, offers serialized challenges featuring over 140 artworks, with new tasks released weekly over a 12-week period beginning January 23. Art Links encourages players to seek out "chains" linking various art pieces through three increasingly challenging rounds. Players can gain knowledge about artworks, earn NFT badges upon success, and collect seven possible achievements. A grand prize includes a year of membership or a private curator-led tour.

The game aims to attract Web3 enthusiasts, art lovers, and casual gamers, showcasing the inclusivity of The Met. Each week will explore different themes, featuring works made from unexpected materials or those interacting with technology. The curated pieces, selected by assistant curator Destinee Filmore and a diverse team, focus on connections in four categories: "Highlights, " "Material, " "Emojis, " and "Web3. " Accessibility has been prioritized, ensuring screen-reader compatibility for visually impaired players. Audrey Ou, CEO of TRLab, emphasized the partnership's goal to enhance audience engagement with art through technology. Players can complete chains of artworks, earning achievements while learning about each piece through built-in resources, without needing prior art history knowledge. The game is hosted on a blockchain platform, supports cryptocurrency payments, and features accessibility-friendly design elements. Art Links will be promoted on The Met's website and social media, complementing its iconic New York locations. TRLab, co-founded in 2021 by Audrey Ou and Xin Li-Cohen, aims to bridge digital art and collectibles, further enhancing how audiences interact with art.
