In January, Rabbit, a startup company, unveiled its first device, the R1, at CES 2024. The R1 is an AI machine in a vibrant orange color, equipped with a camera, scroll wheel, and impressive demonstrations. Currently, the device is being sent out to early adopters and tech reviewers, and we have gained hands-on experience to share with you until we complete a comprehensive review. The R1 is undeniably cute, designed by Teenage Engineering, known for their design expertise in products like the Playdate and Nothing's recent phones and music gadgets. It features a retro-futuristic aesthetic with a sturdy build quality, shiny surfaces, and glass and metal accents. On the other hand, despite its beautiful design, the Humane AI Pin turned out to be subpar. However, the Rabbit R1 is a different story. Firstly, it is priced at $199, which is significantly less than the $700 AI Pin.
Moreover, the R1 does not require a monthly subscription fee like the AI Pin, making it a much better option right off the bat. It's important to note that the category of AI assistant-centric devices is relatively new, and the Rabbit R1 differs from Humane's device in terms of hardware and features. However, it's worth mentioning that the R1 is not launching with all its features just yet, as some basic tools such as alarms and calendar support are currently missing.
