Thomson Reuters has introduced ONESOURCE Sales and Use Tax AI, a software solution designed to automate key aspects of sales and use tax compliance for corporations and accounting firms in the US. The company stated that the system aims to save time for tax teams, lower audit risk, shorten internal compliance cycles, and provide immediate efficiency improvements. Ray Grove, head of Thomson Reuters Corporate Tax and Trade products, said, “This isn’t just automation; it is a fundamental reimagining of the tax function, allowing professionals to focus on driving strategic business advantage. ” Built on CoCounsel, the application aligns with Thomson Reuters’ Touchless Compliance vision, where agentic AI handles data import, validation, and tax return mapping. It also generates complete audit trails that document and clarify every automated decision, facilitating responses to auditor inquiries. According to the company, tax professionals maintain “crucial oversight” through final review and approval, while decreased manual involvement is expected to free staff to concentrate on higher-value tasks. Thomson Reuters noted that the tool supports compliance across more than 19, 000 US jurisdictions, aiming to enable accurate and timely sales and use tax returns. It offers access to more than 1, 200 US state, county, and city official returns, ready for signatures.
The platform also supports electronic filing directly in 33 US states and Canada, eliminating the need for separate manual submissions. Delivered as a cloud service, ONESOURCE Sales and Use Tax AI includes automatic monthly content updates so users always work with the latest forms and tax rates. Thomson Reuters mentioned that the product targets corporate tax departments of all sizes and integrates with its broader indirect tax portfolio. This tool is part of ONESOURCE+, which the company describes as an intelligent compliance network connecting tax, trade, legal, and risk functions. ONESOURCE Sales and Use Tax AI is now available to US corporations and accounting firms managing sales and use tax obligations.
