Artificial intelligence possesses the potential to acquire such astuteness and agility in performing tasks that it could ultimately replace CEOs and political leaders. This has raised concerns amongst politicians in the UK who fear an AI takeover. Recently, Richard John Denison, a peer in the House of Lords, expressed his apprehension that both he and his colleagues could be supplanted by "peerbots" capable of emulating their writing style and voice inflections. Denison highlighted the prospect of these automated counterparts delivering speeches devoid of hesitation, repetition, or deviation. In addressing the upper chamber, he posed the question, "Is it an exciting or alarming prospect that your Lordships might one day be replaced by 'Peerbots' with deeper knowledge, higher productivity, and lower running costs?" Denison also confessed to briefly considering outsourcing his own AI-generated speech to a chatbot, curious to see if anyone would notice. He even experimented with two large language models, both capable of delivering credible, albeit somewhat generic, 500-word speeches within seconds. The notion of AI taking over the roles of politicians or CEOs is not unfounded, according to Dan Hendrycks, the director of the Center for AI Safety. Hendrycks, a machine learning researcher who has extensively studied the potential cataclysmic consequences of artificial intelligence, including its potential dominance over humanity through Darwinian principles, believes it holds merit. He highlighted a Chinese corporation that has already appointed an AI CEO, citing it as evidence of people's willingness to embrace the idea as long as AI performs satisfactorily. NetDragon Websoft, a Chinese gaming company, made headlines last year when it announced the installation of an AI-powered virtual humanoid robot named "Tang Yu" as the CEO of its subsidiary, Fujian NetDragon Websoft.

The move aimed to enhance proficiency and foster a fair and efficient workplace for employees. The chairman of NetDragon, Dejian Liu, stated that they believed AI was the future of corporate management and that the appointment of Ms. Tang Yu demonstrated their commitment to embracing AI to transform their business and drive strategic growth. Hendrycks recently authored a paper titled "Natural Selection Favors AIs over Humans, " which argues that AI agents, driven by natural selection, may act against human interests. He emphasizes that as AIs become increasingly competent, they will increasingly automate jobs, leading to the displacement of everyday people. Hendrycks asserts that this is how natural selection favors AIs over humans and likens AIs to an invasive species in the long run. He explains that if AI adheres to Darwinian principles, these systems would even surpass humans in fields such as politics and executive leadership. Hendrycks outlines a non-exhaustive list of ways in which AIs could outperform humans, including their ability to work tirelessly, gradually increase their speed, handle multiple tasks concurrently, manage an unlimited number of relationships or employees, and possess expertise or superhuman understanding in various domains of interest. Although some studies indicate that CEOs are less likely to be replaced by AI compared to professions like customer service representatives or data entry clerks, the idea of utilizing AI as lawmakers has garnered support from voters. An IE University's Center for the Governance of Change study conducted in Europe in 2021 found that 51% of Europeans would welcome the replacement of members of parliament with AI.
