Astar Relaunches Yoki Origins as Yoki Legacy on Sony’s Soneium Blockchain

Astar, a Japan-based collective promoting Web3 adoption, is relaunching its digital collectible adventure Yoki Origins as Yoki Legacy on Sony’s Soneium blockchain. Originally launched last year with partners such as Casio, Japan Airlines, JR Kyushu Railway Company, Quickswap, and Rarible, Yoki Origins operated on Astar Network, Japan’s leading blockchain ecosystem. Now rebranded and moved to Soneium—a Layer 2 blockchain developed by Sony’s Block Solutions Labs—Yoki Legacy aims to enhance creativity and accessibility within this new platform. Maarten Henskens, head of Astar Foundation, highlighted that Soneium’s supportive environment for creators and intellectual property innovation makes it an ideal home for Yoki Legacy. This transition underscores Astar’s dedication to growing the Yoki IP, ensuring it remains accessible within an ecosystem empowering collators, creatives, and IP-driven content. Yoki Origins demonstrated strong success on Astar Network, registering 59, 000 unique player addresses, minting 2. 5 million Yoki-related NFTs, and engaging 40 projects. The relaunch on Soneium will further expand the blockchain’s ecosystem by offering experiences inspired by Pokémon and traditional Japanese culture, where users collect “Yokis” to complete special notebooks. Soneium is designed to offer scalable, efficient, and accessible blockchain solutions across entertainment, gaming, finance, and more, supported at launch by major Web3 partners like Astar Network, Circle, Optimism, Alchemy, The Graph, and Chainlink. The updated Yoki Legacy features streamlined gameplay: the total number of Yokis is reduced from 48 to 24 (12 basic and 12 evolved), with players able to “fuse” three identical basic Yokis into one evolved Yoki, simplifying collection and enhancing user experience. Yoki’s native token, formerly Omamori (OMA), is rebranded as OMASTR to reflect closer integration with Astar.
Users can mint OMASTR on Soneium using Astar’s native token, ASTR, without daily minting limits, increasing flexibility to engage with the ecosystem. OMASTR is primarily used to acquire capsules from three distinct capsule machines in the game—each offering various Yokis across four types—adding variety and excitement to the collection process. Players earn ACS Points by minting, fusing, and completing notebooks. The Astar Contribution Score (ACS) initiative, with a 100 million ASTR reward pool launched by Astar Foundation, incentivizes on-chain activity and adoption while expanding ASTR token utility and fostering Soneium’s growth. Initially, two million ACS points will be available, with potential future additions. As a special reward, players completing their Yoki notebook by June 1 will receive the exclusive Yoki OG Badge, a unique collaboration token between Astar and Soneium. Sony describes the Soneium OG Badge as more than a digital token—it's a symbol of commitment to the Soneium vision and recognizes holders as pioneering contributors to the ecosystem’s development and expansion.
