Netflix's latest action movie, Atlas, falls short in its attempt to strike a balance between a buddy comedy and a serious action flick. The film revolves around Jennifer Lopez's character, Atlas, teaming up with a smart-mouthed mech suit to combat her evil AI brother. However, the movie fails to fully delve into the complexities of the AI debate and instead takes a more somber tone. While there are amusing moments between Lopez and her mechanical companion, the rest of the film seems to clash with its intended form. Taking place nearly three decades after an AI uprising, Atlas follows Atlas' quest to find and neutralize her brother's threat to humanity.

The movie explores her deep aversion to AI and futuristic technology, rooted in fears of hacking and exploitation. Eventually, Atlas is forced to use a Neural Link to connect with an AI named Smith, resulting in a humorous yet enjoyable bond. However, the film lacks originality, becoming predictable and offering little insight into the AI conversation. Atlas had the potential to make a thought-provoking statement on the subject while keeping an entertaining Hollywood appeal. Unfortunately, it falls short, failing to make a significant impact or fully utilize its comedic aspects.
