Despite Chan's global recognition as a Chinese movie icon and martial arts master, his recent films have not received critical acclaim. Furthermore, some criticisms have surfaced regarding his age based on social media photos. While attempting to rejuvenate Chan with AI technology in A Legend, the outcome fails to impress.

Observers online note that the "rejuvenated" Chan resembles his son, Jaycee Fong Jo-ming, more than his younger self. Critics argue that the technology renders Chan's appearance unnatural and hinders his ability to convey emotions effectively, sometimes unintentionally turning serious scenes into comedy. The movie's heavy reliance on AI technology has also sparked speculations about the excessive use of stunt doubles. In defense of Chan, supporters share behind-the-scenes footage that demonstrates his active involvement in the movie, including scenes where he wears armor and rides a horse. Conversely, others provide images of doubles used for distant shots as evidence of Chan's alleged laziness. Audiences who expected to witness Chan, aged 70, performing stunts but were presented with a digitally altered double feel deceived, suggesting that an aging actor using a stunt double for dangerous scenes is acceptable, but the substitution with a digitally enhanced young face is not. When approached for comment, the film's Chinese distributor declined to address the controversy. Criticism continues to mount for the production. One critic remarks, "The movie not only features an AI Jackie Chan but also a surgically enhanced Zhang Yixing.
