Voice Media Group Seeks Reader Input on AI in Journalism

I want to clarify that this article was not written by artificial intelligence (AI). Voice Media Group, which includes publications such as [Publications], was chosen to participate in a summer news cohort led by Trusting News and the Online News Association. The purpose of this participation is to gain insights into how our readers perceive AI's role in journalism and how we should inform you if we incorporate AI in any aspect of our work. Please take our survey to share your perspective with us. All the research we gather will be shared with the cohort in order to facilitate discussions and guide us as we develop our own AI policy. In this cohort, there are ten other news organizations involved, including [News Organizations].

Our team, consisting of myself, Dallon Adams (audience development director), and James Hamilton (vice president of product and technology), meets regularly with the cohort to exchange findings and ideas. Through this collaboration, we aim to gain a better understanding of how we want (or don't want) to integrate AI into our workflow. Let me make it clear: when we mention AI, we are not referring to its use in writing. As AI technology advances, we are researching tools that could enhance our journalistic process, such as generating SEO headlines, grammar checks, or compiling listings. However, we would always subject AI-generated content to human review and intervention. Apart from survey results, we will also conduct interviews with readers in each of our newsroom communities to gather their thoughts on potential AI utilization in our news gathering and editorial processes. Additionally, we are working with other department leaders at Voice Media Group to establish company policies regarding AI. While we are not yet prepared to share our editorial AI policy, we are actively developing it, and our participation in this cohort will continuously shape this policy. So, will you assist us in shaping our policies and the implementation of AI by participating in this survey?
