The female sumo wrestlers depicted in the photographs exhibit an equal level of fierceness as their male counterparts. Their physical presence is imposing, complemented by a determined expression that conveys their serious intent. Observing them, one can only imagine the formidable challenge that awaits anyone who steps into the ring against them. However, it is important to note that professional sumo for women does not currently exist. These striking images are part of the "AIdeal world" series, created by the artist, who utilizes AI-generated images to portray concepts that do not currently exist in our reality but are advocated for. An example includes female sumo wrestlers in Japan. For centuries, women have been excluded from participating in professional sumo competitions and ceremonies due to a Shinto belief that considers them impure due to menstruation. The sumo images mark just the beginning of Hernandez's project, and further pieces can be found on his Instagram account. Subsequent images envision an all-Black team competing in MotoGP, the premier division of professional motorcycle racing, as well as members of the LGBTQ community freely donating blood without any constraints or complications. Additionally, there are depictions of a world where men have the ability to become pregnant. Hernandez, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, works in advertising and constantly generates ideas for various concepts. The "AIdeal world" series serves as a platform for him to create the world that he personally envisions, featuring individuals who think differently, challenge societal norms, and practice religions that may not be widely accepted. These AI-generated images were produced using Midjourney, the same program responsible for generating controversial images that have subsequently gone viral and required debunking by journalists, such as the fake images of former US President Donald Trump being apprehended by the police or Pope Francis wearing an oversized coat. Although this cutting-edge technology has significantly advanced in recent years, concerns have arisen regarding the ability of the average person to discern between what is genuine and what is fabricated. German artist Boris Eldagsen recently declined a Sony World Photography Award after revealing that his submission was created using AI. This deliberate choice aimed to initiate discussions surrounding the issue. Hernandez acknowledges the reservations people may have regarding AI technology and the potential implications for the future. He believes that the exploration of ways to verify authenticity will likely develop alongside the rise of fake images. Hernandez underscores the dual nature of tools, pointing out that they can be utilized constructively or misused. Much like a hammer, which can be employed to construct or harm, AI can be harnessed for positive creative expression. When creating the water gun images, Hernandez had to manipulate the AI program to achieve the desired aesthetic. His intention was not to depict individuals actively shooting anyone but rather to capture a representative and portrait-like depiction. Initially skeptical, Hernandez, as an art director and creative individual, gradually embraced the possibilities that AI offers. It provides a convenient and cost-effective avenue to explore and realize his ideas. Although he would love to physically travel to Japan, rent a studio, and cast real-life models for a photoshoot focused on female sumo wrestlers, the reality is currently beyond his reach due to factors like fame, connections within the art industry, and financing. However, with the aid of AI, he can now articulate his visions and convey what he once believed to be impossible. This technology facilitates artistic expression, removing the barriers of money and connections, allowing artists and creatives to convey their thoughts freely – a truly beautiful aspect. The process of generating an AI image begins with Hernandez conducting thorough research on the subject matter. He then brainstorms the appropriate prompts to guide the program toward creating the envisioned image.

These phrases and keywords play a critical role in achieving the desired outcome. Initially, Hernandez faced challenges, but drawing upon his photography background, he found his stride by using AI in a manner similar to that of a camera. He would provide instructions not only for actions but also for camera settings such as the type of camera, lenses, and even specific film references, allowing him to capture a specific aesthetic. For example, he might prompt the AI to create a "cinematic, " "high-resolution" image using "Kodachrome" film, or employ the styles of "documentary photography" or "advertising photography" for different concepts. The AI-generated models Hernandez creates are connected to a project he envisions as La Guajira Fashion Week. Being from Venezuela, with his grandmother hailing from a region neighboring La Guajira, which lies between Colombia and Venezuela, he aims to celebrate the creative output of indigenous communities living in that area. La Guajira Fashion Week would showcase not only indigenous apparel but also indigenous models. Hernandez emphasizes that fashion often draws inspiration from tribes and small communities worldwide, making it fitting to reciprocate and give something back. The minute details within an image hold great importance. Hernandez considers factors such as the visual narrative, attire, and poses of the individuals depicted. He continuously refines his prompts to ensure the image aligns with his vision. A comical example he recalls is his initial struggle to accurately represent pregnant men, emphasizing the significance of hand positions in conveying the concept convincingly. Hernandez's decision to create images of pregnant men stemmed from personal experience, as he and his partner were expecting a child. This led them to contemplate the challenges faced by those with limited or no parental leave. These AI prompts even allow the inclusion of specific photographer names to emulate their distinctive style. However, Hernandez does not view this as imitation but rather as a reflection of how art inspires other art, acknowledging the countless instances where artists draw inspiration from existing works. He cites renowned film director Quentin Tarantino as an example of someone who incorporates numerous references without being accused of plagiarism. Hernandez believes that creating something entirely original from scratch is a formidable task. After obtaining AI-generated images that resonate with him, Hernandez edits them using Adobe Photoshop to refine certain elements. This includes addressing issues such as finger placement, which the Midjourney AI often struggles with. Occasionally, he enhances the images with additional colors or adds grain or other missing details. Recently, he has been experimenting with a post-production technique that involves creating an analog film negative of an AI-generated image, which he then prints in a darkroom before scanning it. His goal is to expand his project and transform it into an exhibition. Embracing AI, Hernandez acknowledges the concerns and fears that other artists may have surrounding its implications. However, he urges fellow creators not to be intimidated but rather to embrace the newfound creative opportunities afforded by this technology. He believes that now, more than ever, we need to foster creativity and deliberate on what we want to express and communicate to the world.
