Sony Collaborates with LINE to Integrate Mini-Apps into Web3 Soneium Network

Sony's blockchain division is collaborating with the Japanese social media giant LINE to introduce the latter to the web3 space, as announced on Wednesday. LINE boasts around 200 million active users, and under this agreement, four of its popular "mini-apps" will be integrated into Sony's Soneium network: Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob. This integration aims to offer features such as in-game rewards and purchases. Soneium is primarily operated by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a partnership between Sony and Singapore's Startale Labs. SBSL envisions this collaboration as a means to "transcend boundaries, enabling users to enjoy the advantages of web3 seamlessly, " according to a statement provided to CoinDesk. "LINE has established a robust presence, and incorporating successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem marks a significant step toward enhancing accessibility, " stated Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs.
"We believe this partnership will foster engagement and adoption in ways that were once challenging to accomplish. " Soneium was launched in January, with aspirations to transition web2 users into the web3 domain. This blockchain operates as a layer-2 solution on Ethereum, utilizing Optimism’s OP Stack technology. Currently, it is ranked as the 15th largest layer-2 network by total value locked, according to L2 Beat.
