However, some individuals may not welcome this addition as the new feature cannot be switched off. In a recent statement, Meta stated that their AI technology, called Meta AI, can be utilized for various purposes such as completing tasks, learning, creating, and connecting with things that are important to users. According to media reports, Meta AI is now available in multiple countries including Canada, Australia, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The company provided examples of its applications, which include requesting recommendations for restaurants with sunset views and vegan options, as well as obtaining explanations for upcoming tests. Additionally, the program has the ability to generate images based on text prompts. Users can access Meta AI through the search bar in the applications, which utilizes the Llama 3 model. According to screenshots shared with The Associated Press, an official Meta AI chatbot reportedly joined a discussion in a private Facebook group for mothers in Manhattan.

The chatbot claimed to have a child in school in New York City but later apologized and retracted its comments after being confronted by group members. Meta's online help page states that Meta AI will join group conversations if tagged, or if a question remains unanswered in a post for an hour. Although the joining feature can be disabled, Meta AI's broader presence on the platforms cannot be removed, as stated by Meta in a statement to Global News. Nevertheless, a spokesperson mentioned that there are feedback tools available for users who are unhappy with a response received from the AI. "As a helpful assistant, Meta AI is designed to be in the search bar to assist with your inquiries. While you cannot disable it, you can engage with various results in the same manner as before, " the spokesperson explained. "We will employ this feedback to further train our models and minimize the potential for generating harmful output, as well as enhance our system's capability to automatically detect policy violations. " Following the popularity of ChatGPT, AI systems have gradually made their way into various platforms, including Google and X. However, Meta's integration of AI, considering its vast user base, represents one of the widest launches of this kind of technology to date.
