Brief news summary

MITRE is creating the MITRE Federal AI Sandbox, a platform that offers AI researchers and developers access to powerful computing resources. The sandbox is expected to be operational by the end of the year and will be powered by an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD™. This will allow agencies to experiment with and prototype AI applications on secure infrastructure. The Federal AI Sandbox will provide computing power for training large language models, multimodal perception systems, and reinforcement learning decision aids. MITRE will use the sandbox in various areas, including national security, healthcare, transportation, and climate. The NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD is capable of an exaFLOP of performance to train and deploy AI solutions at scale.

MITRE is constructing the MITRE Federal AI Sandbox to provide its AI researchers and developers with increased computing power. This new capability aims to facilitate experimentation with next-generation AI applications for the federal government. Expected to be operational by the end of the year, the Federal AI Sandbox will be powered by an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, which enhances infrastructure scale and performance for AI enterprise work and machine learning. The goal of the Federal AI Sandbox is to address the limited access that U. S. government agencies have to supercomputers and the expertise required to operate them and test potential applications on secure infrastructure. MITRE's Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Charles Clancy, states that this initiative will level the playing field and provide agencies with the necessary compute power to train and test custom AI solutions. The Federal AI Sandbox will support MITRE's work in various sectors, including national security, healthcare, transportation, and climate.

Agencies can utilize the benefits of the Federal AI Sandbox through their existing contracts with the six federally funded research and development centers operated by MITRE. The sandbox capabilities will include computing power to train advanced AI applications for government use, such as large language models and generative AI tools. Additionally, it can be utilized for multimodal perception systems that process data from multiple sources simultaneously, reinforcement learning decision aids, and more. NVIDIA's Vice President of Public Sector, Anthony Robbins, believes that MITRE's investment in the DGX SuperPOD will greatly assist the U. S. federal government in AI development and unlock its potential to improve citizen services and tackle significant challenges in areas like transportation and cybersecurity. The NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, powering the sandbox, has a performance capacity of an exaFLOP, enabling the training and deployment of custom AI solutions at scale. About MITRE MITRE's mission-driven teams aim to solve problems for a safer world. Through partnerships and federally funded research and development centers, they collaborate with government and industry to address challenges related to the safety, stability, and well-being of the nation.
