Google announced on Tuesday that users can now utilize its Gemini artificial intelligence writing tools to refine email drafts, providing an extra set of eyes for polishing. This feature builds upon Google's existing Help Me Write function, allowing users to choose options such as Formalize, Elaborate, Shorten, and now Polish to enhance their messages. The Polish feature refines rough notes from a draft document, transforming them into a more formal message for review. On mobile, users can access the Help Me Write shortcut within the email body to unlock this feature.

To use these options, users must have Google Workspace with the appropriate add-ons or the Google One AI Premium service. While the AI capabilities are suitable for business emails, it's important to exercise caution when using them for more personal notes, as the charm and authenticity of handwritten messages can be lost. This concern was raised when Google aired a TV commercial during the Paris Olympics portraying a child using AI to write a note to an Olympic athlete. The negative feedback prompted Google to remove the ad from its Olympics rotation.
