Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is reportedly focused on ensuring the chip manufacturer has a stable base in the event that demand for artificial intelligence (AI) systems begins to taper off. The surge in AI has propelled Nvidia to a multitrillion-dollar valuation, making Huang the 15th richest person globally, as reported by Bloomberg on March 14. However, Huang recognizes that products from tech infrastructure companies can turn into commodities, and the industry has a history of experiencing cycles of booms and busts, according to the report. Nvidia is currently contending with competitors attempting to undercut its prices, customers trying to develop their own chips, tariffs adding complications, and national security issues that jeopardize sales to China, the report stated. Additionally, the recent launch of a new AI model from DeepSeek, which claims to offer comparable capabilities to its rivals at a significantly lower cost, has raised questions about whether the AI boom has reached its peak. Following this model’s introduction, Nvidia experienced an unprecedented single-day drop in market valuation, losing nearly $600 billion. With Nvidia's annual conference approaching next week, it is anticipated that Huang will emphasize the company's extensive initiatives aimed at discovering “the next frontier in AI, ” as noted in the report. The company’s strategy includes not only the development of chips but also software that promises to provide advantages across various sectors and incentivize other businesses to sustain significant investments in AI, the report indicates. This Bloomberg article follows a February 26 earnings call in which Huang declared that sales for the company's most advanced chip architecture reached an all-time high in the fourth quarter, suggesting that even greater demand is on the horizon as the AI era has only just started. “AI is advancing at light speed, ” Huang remarked during the call.
"We’re just at the beginning of the age of AI. " He indicated that the world is merely two years into this current wave of AI advancements, which began with generative AI influencing consumer applications and is now shifting to AI agents that will drive business applications. Following these developments, Huang envisions the next phase involving physical AI, such as robots. “AI has gone mainstream, ” Huang said, predicting that it will eventually be integrated into every industry.
